Good afternoon everyone, Over the last few weeks it would appear as though the ice chute flap on my side-by-side refrigerator isn't closing tightly enough which is causing warm air to invade the internal storage bin which in turn is melting the ice and causing the formation of frost and icicles on the inside of the freezer door. I've been watching it closely today and sure enough it (literally) creaks back to an almost closed position (vs. snapping shut convincingly) leaving a small 1/8" or 1/16" gap that only seals (or maybe just closes) when I manually push it shut. I don't know whether this is a lubrication problem, an issue with the spring (if there is one) or perhaps something more sinister? I've checked into possible replacement parts and it would seem this is the one (http://www.repairclinic.com/SSPartDetail.aspx?s=t-1028769-%3d%3di1028769&PartID=1028769) but as I've never attempted a fix like this before, would really appreciate feedback as to whether this is a repair I could manage myself or if it requires professional intervention or if it even needs replacing? Any help/advice/instruction would be most appreciated. Thank you.

That is the kit most often needed how ever I wouldn't order and parts until you confirm that the plastic liner tabs for the spring pin isn't broken on one side. This would require a different kit. The front of the dispenser pops off, if you bend down and look at the bottom of the dispenser front you will see a little indention on each side. Insert a flat head screwdriver and twist hard (it will feel like your going to break it, but NORMALLY it doesn't.) Once both side are released then slide the front up and disconnect the connector on the back side. From here you can pull the little black shock out of the white housing and remove the 4 screws holding the housing in and you will be able to see everything for inspection. Sometimes its mearly a case of the flapper hitting the clear ice chute (indicated by scratches on the right side of the clear chute). Let us know if you get stuck or need advice

Thank you for the reply appl.tech I've tried following your instructions but can't seem to pop the bottom of the unit off. The screwdriver just rotates withing the opening and eats up the surrounding plastic. Here are some photos of the fridge. In the 2nd you can see the bottom right corner (where the little indentation is):   Any chance I'm not looking in the right location?

I keep forgetting the Built in units are a little different than the standard, page 55 of the KABI Manual will help you tear it down.
