Firstly, thanks for this resource. I've been depriving my wife from shiny new appliances for years thanks to your work here. Many coins were wasted away on manly non-essentials due to your saving me from the wrath of the appliance store! Now on to the latest adventure... MDB4100AWX model maytag dishwasher sent out a cloud of retched burning smell a few weeks ago and then stopped before it drained the rinse water. The timer continued merrily along as if all was well, but no draining even occurred. After an hour or so, I can dial it back around to the position where pumping should occur and it drains the water right out. We did have the recall kit work done, and upon inspection there are no burned wires or flaming holes. We have been relegated to the two step washing process now, and my significant other insists that *I* must deal with it. I'm thinking the timer is toast, but would value a second opinion before I toss cash at it. Thanks!

If you have the tech sheet you will need the verify you are getting voltage to the drain pump via the sequence chart. Also, burn smell needs to be addressed as well, maybe from the timer. Have you checked the wiring in the area where it comes out the bottom of the door at the frame of the unit?

The wiring is brand new, and looks perfect at the bottom of the door. To clarify, the burning smell came before the recall kit. We assumed that was the problem. Now there is a very slight burn smell at the door vent, but nothing like before. No burning smell at all from the bottom of the unit. I have a timer information sheet from the unit. I'm not entirely sure on the voltage test though. Is there a better service reference that I need? I did run the dishwasher tonight through a full cycle. It's stopping during the wash cycle. It ran on through the timer. Once complete I could put the timer in *any* position and it would not run. After sitting for 45 minutes or so, I started it at the light wash and it drained first (from the previous wash) and then cycled through the first steps of the wash cycle. It then stopped mid-wash and that was it again. The timer motor is running, but nothing happens, no matter where you put the timer. thanks for the help!

when it fails and should be running you need to verify that the motor is receiving voltage voltage..can test it just by removing the kick plate...wiring harness for motor is right in front of motor...sounds like your motor is heating up and tripping and then coming back on after it cools.

With the plug still connected to the motor? The motor wasn't running?

I put it into the rinse only mode, unplugged the connector from the motor, and tested for voltage. That was when I got 120v from yellow to blue.
