 Model Number: GLHS36EJSD0   Brand: Frigidaire

It stopped working/cooling both the fridge and the freezer.
NO warranty cause it's more than a year old.

The temp in the fridge is 71 now, and the freezer 62.
filter looks clean.....i've unplugged it and back again.....i've reset the temp, etc.

please see attached pictures from the bottom of the back of the fridge. (the blue thing on the bottom ride hand side is now leaking a drop or two....i tried to tighten it but it made it a bit worse so i put a bucket under it.)
Please help!

 Non of the motors inside or out work? The compressor not running?
Could be in defrost mode. Post some pictures of the inside controls.

the fridge is currently plugged in, and it's humming like always.  as if nothing is wrong.  the compressor is warm to the tough, aside from that, i don't know if the compressor is or is not running.
don't know what the defrost mode is and how it would/could have been activated.

 You first have to determine if the compressor is on. Unplug the unit for 10 minutes. While unplugged if the compressor is too hot to touch, cool it down with a wet rag. Prior to plugging it back up lay your hand on top of the compressor. Plug the unit back in and you should feel the compressor start up. If you do feel it start up, look at the back wall of the freezer from the inside...is there frost on the wall? Is the wall cold? If not then you most likely have a gas leak.

If you do not feel the compressor come on you may have a bad relay or a bad compressor...some additional test will need to be performed with a volt meter if this is the case.

the fan works fine, the condensor is clean, the freezer fan IS working.
the one i don't understand is:

Does the evaporator itself look abnormal: either too much frost build-up or too little? Too much frost indicates a defrost system failure == easy, inexpensive fix that’s definitely worth doing. Too little frost means either a freon leak or a worn compressor; either way, junk the refrigerator and get a new one… unless you got suckered into buying a Sub-Zero and now you’re married to the beeotch.


Any suggestions? (i don't know what the evaporator is)
also, could this be a freon issue? (not enough?)
also, what's that blue thing in my pictures (bottom right) that's leaking? (a drop every 3 seconds)

 It does indeed look like you have a defrost issue. You will have to remove that freezer wall

 Good call everyone.
i removed the wall.

i'm going to guess that it's my defrost heating element that needs to be replaced!
i put more pictures on photobucket if someone could take a look please.

can someone point out where that item is? it should be at the bottom cause heat rises....but i can't seem to find and disconnect it....

suggestions?

 Get a hair dryer and melt the coils. It def is a defrost problem. The small black disc is the defrost terminator. You should replace it whether it is bad or not. It is recommended always when replacing the heater.  The heater should be on bottom of the coils.

i banged on the ice a bit and that was a bad idea as some of the metal sheets bent on the corners...I STOPED AS I PUNCHED MYSELF FOR BEING SO STUPID....

for now, i'm not doing anything....just waiting for it to defrost.

ps. which 3 components? how do i do further testing?
the heating element is nowhere to be found....but i see a plate which leads me to believe that the heating element is actually not INSIDE the freezer but instead in the back....heating up the plate from underneath (unlike the video that you guys posted...showing the heating element INSIDE the freezer)

thanks, is the defrost terminator the black thing that has two blue wires coming out of it?
also, i'll have to wait until the damn thing defrosts before i can see the heater.

Your heating element is the 2 black rods you see coming up the sides of the evaporator coil...one side of it has a red connector and the other side has a white one.

you defrost thermostat is the round button looking piece clamped to the tubing with 2 wires coming off of it...one wire attaches to the element.

The other component is the control board in the Frige side

 do you have a volt / ohm meter? if not you will have to return power back to the unit in order to get a better diagnosis

ok, i understand what the heating element is now.
i do NOT understand the defrost thermostat.  what colour wires are coming out of it? (can you point to it on the picture somehow? maybe using "paint"?)
also, i don't know where the control board in the fridge side would be...are they in my pictures?
which component should i start with?
