Model #25351392101 - Kenmore Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Not sure of the exact problem. The freezer fan constantly runs, except when in defrost mode. The fridge does go into defrost mode, saw it get red hot. Seemed to cycle just fine, and then freezer fan back on, constantly running again. Ice maker works, dampers good, coils clean. From what I've been able to tell, it is one of the following parts:

(Cheap) Defrost thermostat behind panel in freezer compartment

(Expensive) Temperature control behind filter in fresh food compartment

The temperature control for the freezer compartment seems to work okay, but the temperature control for the fresh food compartment seems to be part of the problem. Both temperature controls are set to the default of five. Turn the fresh food compartment temperature control to zero, then the freezer fan shuts off.

Which part is the culprit? Thanks in advance. :)

So I stuck the thermometer into the fresh food side from ambient air and got this:
  • Fresh food side: 40.2° F and 24% Humidity
Then I moved the thermometer from the fresh food side into the freezer side and got this:
  • Freezer side: 0.3° F and 35% Humidity
Then I moved the thermometer from the freezer side back into the fresh food side and got this:
  • Fresh food side: 35.7° F and 28% Humidity
And somewhere during the thermometer placements, the compressor and its fan kicked on. The freezer fan stayed on the whole time.

The ice maker did act up the other day, ice cube tray full, top cubes started melting, water dripping down the front of the fridge from the underside of the dispenser box on the outside of fridge. Turned the water off to the fridge, emptied the ice tray, dripping down front of fridge stopped. Resumed use of ice maker with no problems so far. Not sure if that is coincidence or symptomatic.

Freezer fan used to shut off regularly but now just stays on except in defrost mode, or so it seems.

Just checked the thermometer again, and in the several minutes to write this post, compressor and its fan back off, thermometer reads:
  • Fresh food side: 36.6° F and 24% Humidity
When I first noticed this fan problem, it seemed that the freezer fan stayed on for hours, then it shut off for a couple minutes, went back on for a long time, when off for a couple minutes.  Now it just seems to be on most of the time.

Thanks again in advance. :)

If you look at the wire diagram  generously provided by Reg U.S. ,,You will see the adaptive defrost control runs the show...............I would look at replacing that item.......... $97.85 from repairclinic............Part is returnable if I am not correct.........  the defrost terminator is operating, it is the neutral path for the motor............motor starts when the terminator closes........................
