The ice maker is stuck on crushed, I understand from another post why this is and how to correct it. However, if I pull the ice tray out for any reason, when I put it back, I'm back to stuck on crushed. To fix it I have to pull the tray out slightly, manually pull down the white plunger, then push the tray back in so the metal rod sits on top of the plunger.

remove the bucket completely....push in the door switch...make sure the white plunger is in the down position...actuate the cubed ice . You should see the plunger lift as long as you have the glass paddle actuated. When you remove your hand the plunger should fall back down....if its not then obviously its getting stuck in which case the plunger and coil should be replaced.....if its doing something different post back.

Thank you for the quick reply. As soon as I pull out the bucket the white plunger pops to the up position and nothing I do makes it move down, or up and down.

so even if you dont have the dispensor paddle actuated the plunger pops up when you remove the bucket??? if so it sounds like the dispensor board or the actuator switch is whacked...that coil shouldnt pop up by itslef...that means its recieving voltage constantly. are you sure that the rod on the bucket is inside of the plunger? if it is then the malfunction should make the ice bucket shift into cube dispense...you may have 2 problems.

Yes that's correct, the plunger pops up and stays up and when I push the bucket back in the metal rod sits below it. In order to dispense cubes I have to pull down on the plunger then push the tray in so the metal rod sits inside the plunger. The next time the bucket is removed, I'm stuck on crushed again.

Going to need to pull the auger assy. Down and confirm voltage to the solinoid....or remove the dispensor front and do some voltage checks...do you have the tech. Sheet?

Look behind the toe panel, that's where they are normally stored. If you don't see it just post your entire model # and we'll get ya 1

I am having a similar problem. The sliding actuator does not move when I change from crushed to cubed or vice-versa. Ideas?

You need to check voltage on the coil when the selector is on cubed and the door switched is closed and you actuate the dispensor...going to have to drop the auger assembly down to get to it

friggy has a problem with this, the solenoid builds frost, then if the coil is energized for a longer period of time to draw a large amount of ice this frost will melt, it then refreezes and the plunger is now frozen inside the coil you can usually remove the auger motor assembly, remove the motor from assembly, thaw and dry it out well and it will start to operate normally again when reinstalling make sure the plunger drops with gravity,if the solenoid is put in crooked the plunger does not drop properly refrain from drawing large amounts of ice through the dispensor, for coolers or buckets and what not, just remove the ice bin and dump out ice when large amounts are needed at once if the solenoid freezes repeatedly you have to change it friggy has a service kit to help prevent this... its a molded styrofoam block that fits over the solenoid to prevent frost build up however i still see fridges with this kit that have the solenoid frozen/jammed
