Hey there....would like to solicit some opinions on my refrigerator issue.

Came back after a long weekend and the water/ice dispenser wasn't working.  The next day it worked, followed by a few more cycles of selective operation.  Did some searching online, sounded like it could be the water filter needing replacement.  It worked great for a few days after the filter replacement so I thought I was good to go.  It started up again and I noticed today that the temperature control panel wasn't working - it was only showing zeros.  If I hit any of the other buttons on the door panel, it starts flashing zeros and alternates with zeros running across the screen left to right.  The temperature inside the freezer and refrigerator appear to be ok.....so far.  Which seems odd to me that it would still cool if it was the motherboard.

I've read some other posts with similar issues on other GE models.  I checked my model number and it's not on the list of the recall from a few years ago related to the motherboard.  I'm not sure of the manufacture date (I'm probably looking in the wrong place).  It was purchased about 2.5 years ago by the previous owner of my house.

Do you think I just need a new motherboard?  It looks like there are some pretty good detailed instructions out there and I could handle this myself?  I'm not an idiot but not an electrical guru either.

C-

Check the wiring at the freezer door hinge (usually at the lower hinge, tho sometimes at the top).

If it's crusty, clean it up- although it's usually rusted to the point that you may have to cut the bad parts out and bridge the gap with some scrap wiring.

The wiring and water supply was at the bottom of the door - not rusted at all.  A little dust but that was about it.  But, I took off the kickplate panel thing and noticed there was some moisture around the wiring especially because of some electrical tape wrapped around the connection.  I took that off and wiped that down.  The controls popped back on for a bit.  But now it's not doing anything - my running zeros are gone and no lights are on.  I'm not sure where the moisture came from because the water supply line and the floor underneath were both dry.  So I don't think it's the motherboard anymore...but this connection point.

Yep.

Take the connector apart (basically, unplug the door).

Moisture gets in the connector and corrodes the contacts.  You may not notice until it's unplugged and inspected closely.

I took the connector apart.  The moisture inside was dark but the pins weren't corroded in an obvious way but it didn't look good in there either.  What a poor design this is.

So what are my options to replace the connector?  I can't find anything like it in the "Find Parts Fast" page.

I don't understand - if the pins are corroded, I need a new connector. So where do I get that?

You can't buy the connector. If its unable to be cleaned then you have 2 options....cut the connector out and splice the wires together ot buy another refridgerator. You need to do some further testing to verify that the connector is even the problem. You need to do a voltage and a continuity check through the connector to verify if its good or not.
