OK all any help will be appreciated.  He/She that solves this debacle has a case of their favorite beer in the mail the next day. :)

I have a GE Profile Side by Side Refridgerator.  The original problem (I thought) was that the unit was frosting over so there wasn't enough airflow.  I did the jumper test and the heater element did not turn on.  Sweet! I thought....no dice.  I replaced the heater element and the test worked but it still wouldn;t come on by itself.

I did some more digging on this site and read that if that is the case it is usually a bad motherboard, evaporator fan with Thermistor or both.  The recommendation was two replace both at the same time because the burnt out thermistor could take a new motherboard with it.  Understood.  I bought the new parts

Item#: 1531075
Description: Motherboard
-------------------------------------
Item#: 914169
Description: Motor, dc freezer (evaporator) fan with thermistor

That didn't take me too long to get done.  Sweet!  Again I thought I was done.  No dice.  NOW, the damn unit is frosting over again AND the door between the freezer and Fridge was not opening up by itself.  I popped the cover off and opened the door myself.  I have had a temp gauge in the fridge now for about 4 hours and the temp is still about 56 degrees.  One of you rockstar's has GOT to have a clue here.  There isn't much else for me to replace!

Help!  Thanksgiving is in a week and we are hosting 18 people here.  BTW, ALL of my parts get bought from this site.  This info I keep finding here is awesome.

The model is GSS22SGMD BS.  Sorry I should have included that the first time.

What really doesn't make sense to me at this point is why the Fridge side isnt getting cold?  There only seems to be one fan.  The one that pulls air across the evaporator.  I flipped the door open between the fridge and freeze.  It has been open for hours now and still the fridge is 56 degrees.  Why isn't it getting cooler?

I would say partly frosted. I just took this picture and this is 24 hours or from a full powered down defrost.

I would say

"frosted, clogged, no air-flow"

may be a defrost problem ..

Right.  Which is why I just bought a brand new defrost heater, Motherboard and fan motor with thermistor.  Where do I go from here?

He's right about checking thermistors- there's one on top of that evap coil, looks like a lil white bullet.  The trick is, LEAVE IT BURIED IN THE ICE, just unplug the fan harness and find the two wires that go to the thermistor.  Ohm it out from there, it should be NO LESS than 16 KOhms if it's buried in ice.

Bad thermistor will cause the heater to either not run, or run too long and burn itself out on the very next defrost cycle.  So recheck your heater too!

I agree with the thermistor, but do want to verify that you have your heater hooked up correctly, your original heater was a single heater original part # wr51x10053 which changes to a wr51x10101 dual heater. that heater comes with a small jumper on the left side that is already attached and a long jumper that is only needed in the event that the blue or pink wires aren"t long enough. i noticed that you have the long jumper installed but it looks like you have it on the left side, or did you just not move the original wire over to the right?
