The DW has been getting louder over the last couple of weeks, and as of today is leaking from the bottom somewhere partway through operation, and on the last attempt, the motor seems to hum, but not actually start up right after the first fill with water.

When I hit cancel / drain, it seems to pump out ok, but otherwise, we get the ominous hum and nothing else from the motor...

Could this be an obstruction of some sort, or is the motor most likely toast?

Model # is GU2500XTPB3

Serial # is FS0582883

Any advice on where to start / look is appreciated...FWIW, I do have the disassembly instructions, I just wanted to get some advice on what to look for before I open it up.

regards,
Rowan

This sounds suspiciously like the famous motor death in these dishwashers. The bearing in the motor is prone to damage by leakage (internal, not external) and ultimately seizes the motor. You'll probably end up replacing the whole motor-pump assembly. Got some helps on that ratcheer.

Some may wonder, "Why change the entire motor-pump assembly when the mere circulation motor is all that's needed." Knock yourself out. Been there, done that, learned that in rehab.
