We have the above P-O-S dishwasher. Now that I laid out the what, 40 bucks for the stainless steel axles for the upper rack, my wife is complaining that the unit is not cleaning well and wants to buy a new dishwasher. I have looked at prices, and decided to explore all avenues before going that route. The glasses in the upper rack do not clean well, and I have seen them feel "gritty" when they come out. I have also heard her complain about the lower rack too, but not as often.

I have reviewed the Samurai write up and I have taken apart the spray arm stuff at the top of the motor. The filter screens looked OK to my untrained eye, and the impeller looks like it is in fine shape.

Oh yes, she uses the plastic coated tablets for the detergent, a big no-no I know.

Can anybody offer any advice to make momma happy again?

Check the water fill level, should just touch the bottom of the element.

Also, check that plastic shaft extension on the motor.

If you suspect, or can verify, that the upper spray arm isn't spinning, see this topic.

Yep, I saw that post, but I'm guessing that I didn't disassemble enough to check this. If I pull off the black impeller, is it obvious that this is the problem?

Also, I assumed the filter that can clog was these fine white mesh screens that didn't look very big, about 3 or 4 of them around the housing. Am I correct?

Are any special tools required to replace the shaft extension?

Neal

I was listening to the dishwasher working (or not working), and I definately didn't hear a lot of splashing going on, though quickly opening the door showed some water draining from the upper rack arm.

I assume this is consistent with the stripped shaft thingy? Looks like a trip ro Repairclinic.com.

You have to remove the impeller to even get to where you need to be!

That be them.

You'll need a #20 torx bit.
