 My GE side by side (model GSS25KGMC) has decided not to cool properly. The freezer side is working fine however the fridge side..... well that's just plain warm (55F typically). I can't figure out why one side can be nice and cold and the other toasty warm...... its ruining the beer! I'm not sure if this something to do with air circulation between the two sides or something more sinister. Any help, advice (other than get a new one which isn't an option right now) is appreciated.Thanks, Dave

Hello, my uncool friend. Oftimes, the problem you describe can be caused by a failed defrost system in the freezer. The freezer may seem to be cold but this is only because the Great Satan has deceived you into not making a proper temperature measurement of this compartment. Break out the teeth of the Great Satan by measuring the temperature in the freezer and share with us here the saga of your victory over sin.

I've checked the freezer temperature which is a cold 21F. I've lowered the settings to see if the temperature is actually controlling. I've also measured the temperature again in the FF section. This is 52F on the top shelf and 40F on the lower shelf. Not sure if this points to anything or not.

Freezer should be about 0F and Fridge about 38F to 40F. Does the Compressor run "forever" ? Check the frost patteren on the Evaporator Coil in the Freezer. post pic ? Should be completely, evenly frosted after Compressor run time of at least an hour after Defrost.. Is the Evaporator Fan running ? (whenever the Compressor runs, and the Freezer Door Switch is closed)

The compressor seems like it runs constantly but I'm not 100% certain. Its hot to the touch (but touchable) all the time. The cooling fan next to the coil underneath is running fine. If you have a pic/pics of the evaporator coil in the freezer it would be helpful - thanks. I did the standard unplug/plug in a couple of days ago as the intial problem was that the freezer had warmed up and the ice maker thawed out creating a nice puddle and softening up the ice cream..... after that the freezer cooled back down (at least enough to make ice ok) but the fridge still isn't cold enough - and from your comment the freezer might not be either. Hope some of this sheds further light?? Dave

Remove the back panel inside the freezer and behold the fuzzy ice encrusting the evaporator coil. Post a pic if you can. If it looks like I think it's gonna look, you've had a defrost system failure. Check the continuity of the defrost thermostat and the defrost heater while you're in there. If they check good, then you'll need a muthaboard.

Sorry for the tardy response - too much BS happening everywhere..... the problem was indeed a failed defrost heater allowing ice buildup. Once replaced the freezer and fridge are again running perfectly.
