So the ice chute door on the old TFX27FHE is hanging open.  I can reach up and push it closed and there's no resistance at all.  Took the panel off the inside of the freezer door, and the lanyard is slack.  It seems like it wants tension from the bottom (vicinity of what I believe to be the timer delay box?).   When I pull down here at the bottom, the chute door closes.

The access on our model doesn't seem quite like others described.  The method of removing the cradles and/or front control panel is not clear.   Any advice on how to get in there to look for something, or what to replace?   Comfort level with electronics is high; comfort level with randomly prying at stuff without a manual is low to medium. Thanks in advance.

by what you describe the problem is most likely the lanyard or the time delay. if i am not mistaken it is all non electrical on your unit. the acess is through the cover on the inside of your freezer door. once the cover is off all the stuff is hidden behind a bunch of insulation.

hope that helps

tim

Sounds like you're thinking of the right model.  So the time delay box should come out from the back?  It looks like there isn't room to get it out if I remove the 2 top screws going down through that metal bracket.  How much stuff do I have to break down in there to get at it?

Many thanks

You may need to remove the freezer door(cover opening with a piece of styrofoam)- lay the door on a table and remove the liner from the door by removing the screws around the perimeter of the door gasket. Pay special attention to try and place all of the insulation pieces back where they were to prevent moisture migration once your repairs are complete

Yuck (but thank you).  Well, I was hoping to look around before ordering parts, but I don't want to do two door removal/reinstalls if I can help it.  Can someone explain what happens to the lanyard after it disappears down into the timer box?  What parts list would I want to have on hand for this?

It goes into a springloaded "wind up" assembly, which is likely the part you require

I found this, which is slightly different in the "affected area."  Note the box #39, which is the timer delay.  I have that black box visible, which seems to match this.  Is the windup business inside there?

Looks like my lanyard (43) is #296604 and my timer box (39) is #310725 (backorder...).   My pulley (63) is visible and doesn't look obviously busted; is it a potential problem anyway?   And the fastener - what does it fasten?

Thanks again.

Yes, the wind up mechanism is in the delay mech, the other parts are area's that could be part of the issue, the fasteners are for the frame around the outside of the door that usually break upon removal, seems that I recall an issue where a bracket securing the pivoy ass'y to the dispenser housing woud break off, requiring replacement of the housing to repair it - been a few years since I worked on one of these

Got it done OK. Of course, when the old timer box was removed, it magically righted itself and retracted the cable. Might have been able to fix it with a sharp tap. We put in the new one anyway, since the freezer door was there all completely apart and we figured the old one might keep doing that. Did not need lanyard or fasteners.
