Hello all,

I'm having problems with a Subzero Model 550. This model has twin compressors, one for freezer and refrigerator. The freezer is working OK. Its the refrigerator I'm having trouble with. Its not cooling at all.  I cleaned the condenser coil. The compressor runs and humms like it normally would. No odd sounds. Next step I did was to remove the access panel to the evaporator. Evaporator was not iced up and was barely under room temperature. Condenser fan and evaporator fans work. The evaporator has some corrosion and I suspect it leaks. I hooked up guage manifold to the low side service connector. When running the compressor pulls about 15in-Hg of vacuum. When the compressor is off the pressure rises to about 42psi.

Any ideas what the issue is? I was able to get the service manual for the Subzero 550 on the manual forum. But that manual didnt contain any sealed system diagnostic information.

Any ideas? Any sealed system diagnostic information out there for the Subzero Model 550?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If the compressor is running and you have no frost pattern, sounds like you have a leak. While the compressor is running, remove power to it (such as unplugging fridge), then apply the power again (plug back in) right away, if the compressor starts right up, you have a leak - compressor should hum and kick out on overload if it is pumping refrigerant

changed evaporator coil, filter-drier, evacuated the system and charged. Worked like a charm. On a totally different question...does anyone know why on these refrigerators on the nameplate where it says model number, SN, etc. It says Hi side pressure to be 235psi, lo side 130psi. I've found those numbers to be completely off.
