Okay, I have a Maytag MDB-7000-AWB dishwasher that is spilling water onto the floor. Underneath it on the front right corner is a plastic container. It is from this container that the water is spilling.

My original thought was that the float had an issue, so I took it apart and cleaned it. Didn't help. So I then replaced the switch that is activated by the float. This seemed to help some as it now doesn't spill near as much water, but some water is still spilling over the sides of the container.

Help! :(

Okay, the water is spilling over the top of part #10.

I disasembled and cleaned the float which is part #28.

I also replaced the float switch, which is part #29.

But it's still dumping water, not nearly as much, but it's still a problem.

What should I do next?

TIA

# 10 is an Inlet Vent ...

Check to see if the Float Switch is working ...

Check to see if the Fill Valve is leaking water into the D/W

Okay, but let me point out a few things so we're on the same page.;)

First, I've replaced the switch to the float, so that should be good.

Second, I'm a cabinetmaker by trade so some of this is uncharted territory if ya know what I mean.

Third, I have a volt meter, but I'm not completely sure how to check something like this for ohm's. All I use it for is to check voltage in the shop. What's the proper procedure to perform the ohm check?

Thanks

Jefferson

Let me be more specific with my question.

When I have my volt meter set up for an ohm reading, what range should I use? If the switch is good, what will the reading be?

Hmm........ well, with the meter on the 200 ohm setting, I'm getting a reading of around 01.5 ohms when the switch is depressed. If I lift the float to disengage the switch it goes to nothing.

It fills to just above the heating element, maybe a 1/4" above it.

I'm not sure on that model (can't find a manual) but usually only up to just touching the Heater...

Usually only to the element. Also , any suds in d/w when running(e.g. wrong soap?) No cracks in spray arms , and the arms are moving? O.K. now I am finished..

It's definitely filling to where the element is submerged.

Well, she uses the gel type Cascade, I've not noticed any real sudzing. She only fills one of the two soap cups, which seems fine as the dishes are clean.

I don't believe the arms are cracked or seized up.

The overfill switch is activated by the float...too much water and the float  floats up and opens the circuit/power to the fill valve..... ( this float  provides overfilling protection )  .....the d/w fills by time and the correct orifice in the water valve... Did you do the automatic function test and time the fill cycle??   The water level is below the heater element.....

Interesting, I've not performed the auto-test but will in the morning.

How does one know what the proper time is? And more importantly, what do you do to modify it?

the older maytags fill until they trip the float switch, not by time. the float grows gookus with age that weighs it down causing the dishwasher to overfill. take the float out and inspect the underside of it, make sure its nice and clean.

So the old maytags did not have an overfill protection device??..     a plastic spoon could cause  an overfill........ Ya gotta love those designers
