OK, I have had it with my KitchenAid dishwasher. I'll spare you the long stories about this crappy product and you spare me from saying what a great dishwasher KitchenAid is, okay?

So, I know to stay away from GE, Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and Frigidaire. What else is left?

Should I go out and try to find a 20 year old used GE Potscrubber?

Should I pay 2 grand for a Bosch?

What should I do?

Please help!

Bill

a bosch can be had for about 400-500 and that would be my choice, i know some of the other masters disagree.

I feel your pain.  We just bought a new Kitchenaid, a middle of the line with hidden controls.  It did not clean any better than our five year old Kenmore.  In fact it was nearly the identical machine with both units being made by Whirlpool.

We returned it after one day and bought a Bosch for 20% off. That made the price a little more acceptable.

One thought on cleaning.  We have used Cascade for years, but I do not think it does a great job in the relatively hard water we have here in Colorado.  I will be searching for a different brand of detergent in the near future.

Hope your dishwasher woes get worked out to your satisfaction.

Brad

Well, I have been shopping on line-it seems the lowest price Bosch I can find is in the upper $500 range. When installation and tax is added, I'll be at $700, or $800.

I see some good things about LG. Generally I am not a big fan of buying imported stuff, but the KitchenAid experience changed my mind. I'll try German, or Korean in a dishwasher now.

I guess Whirlpool is like any other American company in that reputation means nothing-they will just get a tax payer bailout when they go bankrupt from shipping mediocre crap just like GM.

We discovered that SHAKLEE auto dish 'jet clean' detergent cleaned the best in our mediocre KitchenAid. It is less expensive than Cascade because you only use 1 oz per load, and the dishes and glasses came out flim free. The problem with SHAKLEE stuff is you have to buy from someone in the 'multi level marketing' scheme.

Thanks for the replys. I'll let you know what I buy.

Bill

cascade is my favorite as it has a high phosphate content. if you still get a film you should use an additive such as lemi shine or glass magic.

I can agree with the last poster.  My sister just purchased an LG midgrade dishwasher and she loved it for a couple of weeks.  Cleaned well and was pretty quiet.  Now she is not so enamored with it because of how it doesn't clean.

Unwittingly she thought she had ordered the model with the fold down tines and moveable racks, but somehow when it was delivered, she realized it was not the model she wanted.  Not sure why she did not take it back for an upgrade.

ALL these tall tub dishwashers don't wash as well as the regular tub dishwashers because they use smaller energy saving wash pump motors that have much less torque and horsepower than the older style normal tub dishwashers.

Even the Bosch, which has a filter that you must clean by hand will let you down if you don't do a good job of scraping the food off the dishes. You cannot use a dishwasher like a garbage disposer.

As far as detergent, I reccommend Electrasol (now they changed the name to Finish) in the powder form, NOT the liquid/gel.

You also have to make sure you use rinse agent such as "Jet Dry" in the rinse agent dispenser for spot free dishes.

Make sure your water heater is set for a minimum of 120 degrees F.
