I am looking at buying a new dishwasher. the latch on this kenmore is not working right and the motor i changed a few years ago. other things are broken basically the spouse has killed it. Whaty i was wondering is what type would be recommended to buy? I have one that fits under a countertop. I could probably change the latch switch etc but the whole door thing is loose etc. it is over 10 years old more like 13 and alot of times the dishes are not all clean. Now yes the spray arms do seem to clog up all the time(the holes) so again If any, what kind of dishwasher would you recommend based on reliability, cleanliness, noise etc?

The best d/w we have had in our travels was a Kenmore(Whirlpool) . It was a basic tub model , not a tall tub. It had 3 wash arms , and the one  big motor to drive it , mounted right in the center. (Wish I could remember model #)It had an electronic control but otherwise it was fairly basic. $450 to $490 I think it was here in the great frozen north. Not as quiet as a $1600 Bosch , but I am a cheapscate.

I will second Gray Ones opinion, it's the only ones I recommend of dishwashers.

Go to the Sears appliance site and lookup these #'s

Kenmore branded Whirlpools ------ Actual Whirlpool Branded
Stock# 022 13592000 White                      022 19412000  (Actual Whirlpool)
            022 13593000 Stainless Steel        022 19413000  (model# DU930PWS??)
            022 13594000 Almond                    022 19414000
            022 13599000 Black                       022 19419000

If you purchase the ones that are actually branded with Whirlpool you can
have anyone who does Whirlpool warranty work fix it if it should break in
the first year.   If you purchase a Kenmore branded product you have to deal
with Sears for any warranty work.

There are only a couple of minor difference between the Kenmore and the actual
Whirlpool machine.

Kenmore the controls are one the right side of console and the Whirlpool controls
are on the left side, (or it could be the other way around).

The Kenmore's silverware caddy is the long narrow basket that sits int the lower rack.
The Whirlpool silverware caddy is attached the door.

And I believe one has a few or one other cycle then the other has, (like maybe QUICK RINSE).

These units are all the time on sale also, I generally see them in the $360 - $390 price range, except for the stainless models usually around $400 - $480.

trying to narrow it down between these 2 whirlpools can you help me decide. here are some questions.

what about the 02219544000 whirlpool? vs the 1941 the 1941 has a stainless steel hard food disposer not energy star towerless wash tower 5 level direct feed sheer clean system (whats that?)

the 1954 has a food disposal ? all it says sheer clean wash system(is a 5 level sheer clean better than just the sheer clean wash system?) the 1954 is energy star and is NSF certified rinse any value? Im trying to narrow it down to one of these two models. thanks!

if you post the actual Kenmore model numbers 106.xxxxxxxx (or Whirlpool model numbers)

you could see the parts diagram at SearsPartsDirect and possibly link you to the similar Whirlpool service manuals

KENMORE                                       WHIRLPOOL  (last # is the number zero)
Stock# 022 13592000 White                      022 19412000  (DU930PWSQ0)
             665.13592K600
            022 13593000 Stainless Steel        022 19413000  (DU930PWSS0)
             665.13593K600
            022 13594000 Almond                    022 19414000  (DU930PWST0)
             665.13594K600
            022 13599000 Black                       022 19419000  (DU930PWSB0)
             665.13599K600

The Whirlpool branded standard colors are on sales for $322.99 and the stainless $365.49,
The Kenmore branded standard colors are on sale for $299.88 and the stainless $349.88, on Sears website, (that's the cheapest I've ever seen them selling for!!!!).

The Whirlpool uses a thermistor to measure water temp, the Kenmore uses a bi-metal t-stat.  Both use the exact same motor and pump setup and have the standard soft food chopper blade in them.

These models aren't energy star compliant because they use  more water then the wimpy energy star rated ones that don't wash the dishes as well, (in my opinion).

The 02219544000 is Whirlpool model# GU2300XTVT0, I personally wouldn't recommend one of these to my customers.  The so called stainless steel hard food disposer is a joke, (that is one of the weak points, the plastic arm the blade is attached to breaks then the screen plugs up).  Also I see way to many of these motors going out, the seals start leaking a small amount, (not enough to every notice or see then by the time you hear the louder motor sound then normal it's to late, the motor bearings are bad).  The big selling point of this machine is the tall tub, if you want the tall tub then this maybe what you want.

And as far as the hard or soft food disposal blades in a dishwasher, REMEMBER --- A dishwasher is NOT a garbage disposal!!!!!!!

Yes, if you want almond color and a dishwasher that should last you many years with little or no problems and you don't care about the tall tub, then that would be the one to go with.

But the Kenmore one: 022 13594000 Almond is basically the same machine but $23 cheaper if you don't mind dealing with Sears if you have a problem in the first year.

hey thanks guys/gals. i had to settle for the taller tub model. the other one is way too small  height wise from the bottom shelf up. I dont care whether its Sears or not since Ill probably be fixing it myself anyway. i did like the silverware drawer on the door. so its a whirlpool. thanks again.

I have to say, owning a Whirlpool model, that the silverware basket on the door doesn't work as well as other models I've had with the basket in the lower rack. I don't think the silverware gets enough direct spray.

I need to replace a Bosch Shv 4803 with another quiet, but cheaper d/w, with the ability to take the cabinet front off and use it on the replacement.  Do you have any recommendations?

I would go with a Kitchen Aid. I don't think you will be able to reuse the custom made wooden door panel on it, though.

I would stay away from Bosch if I were you.

Thanks.  The cost of a new custom door panel may justify fixing the piece of crap Bosch.

I did buy the tall tub model and it worked awesome for 9 months. Now the top rack seems like its not getting enough water(the dishes are not coming clean) does this sound like a common problem? Any idea? sorry meant to get the serial number but I forgot to do that this morning. The bottom dishes look like they are coming clean. ??? It is a tall tub model.

What would've been your first choice?

I'm semi-shopping for a new dishwasher. I like Whirlpool stuff, except that silverware in the door looks good on paper but not so much in practice, and the fact that cleaning out the disposal mechanism (for the inevitable piece of plastic, or paper scraps from labels the kids put in there) is a bit of a pain (four Torx T15 screws, plus getting the upper spray water pipe out of the way). Using a GU2400XTPS7 now, but it was a store refurb that is likely going back to the store. (For $100, I figured it was worth a 30 day gamble.)

I'm a Whirlpool fan of dishwashers, i just cant deny the reliability of a Frigidaire...as I have said several times if i service a hundred dishwashers maybe 2 of them would be a frigidaire and those two are usually the high end models...the cheaper ones are hard to kill.

hey does anyone have anything to say regarding why the TOP RACK would seem like its not cleaning? If it was a heater coil thing wouldnt the lower rack be affected too. I know the water temp needs to be a certain temp and that hasnt changed since we had it i thinks its around 125 and its always worked fine. this is a whirlpool tall under the sink model.

May not be getting enough water in the basin, may have gookus in the mascerator... it's only 9 months old, so it should still be under warranty. I'd explore that route before you do anything inside that may void your warranty.

Well, without a model number, the gracious experts here will all mock you and give you a virtual wedgie.

As for the top rack, you'll want to ensure that the spray arms (or manifold that feeds them) aren't clogged, that they move (note position of arms; run it a few seconds, then open and see if you can catch it moving or in different position), and that water is reaching the dishes (put an empty glass upright on the top rack; does it have water in it after a few seconds of operation)? Do you use rinse aid (which seems to be essential in new models)?

If it's no longer under warranty: Did you clean out the gookus under the screen in the bottom? (This can include broken glass -- don't put your fingers in there without visual inspection -- plus bits of plastic wrapper, bones, kids' Legos, crusty excess detergent, etc.) Removing the screen from recent Whirlpools takes a T15 screwdriver plus the Phillips one you need to get the manifold free from the back of the tub.

(All this I have learned from solving this issue with three dishwashers in the past couple of years.)
