I have this fridge, it's 18 years old.  It stopped making ice and then I noticed that it never stopped running.  Everything is cool &/or cold as it should be, but no ice and the electric company is sending me thank you cards for supporting their vacation fund.  I ordered the temp controller, thinking that it saw the temp as too high and just kept running which would also account for the lack of ice since it thought it was too warm.  Replaced it and I still have the same problem.  I have the temp control set to the lowest setting and it still runs constantly.  Not sure what to check from here and I hope to fix it soon before the electric bill bankrupts me.  Thanks!!

Forgot to mention that the light bulbs are not on when the door is closed either.  I checked the switch and also unscrewed the bulbs to be sure it wasn't causing the problem

Actual temperatures of the Freezer & Fridge would be nice to know.

You could use one of these from Harbor Freight stores.

It usually won't make ice unless the Freezer is colder than 15F

A good look at the frost pattern of the Evaporator Coils in the Freezer would help.

It may have a Sealed System Leak and low on Freon....

The fridge is 40 degrees, freezer is just about 18 degrees but I do have it set on the lowest setting to see if it will ever shut off.  I'll pull the fridge and see what the coils look like.

I believe that the Cold Control on that model senses the Freezer temperature...

It's doing it's job, the Freezer temperature should be near 0F

The frost pattern on the Evaporator Coils may tell another (sad) story ...

Coils are completely covered with frost/ice.  I'm going to defrost and then run again to check the frost pattern.  Is it worth doing anything else?

concentrate on the defrost thermostat. if it was a sealed system issue with the unit running all of the time with the freezer at 18 you would be complaining of things freezing in the refrigerator so i think we can rule that out.

I think I lucked out on this one.  While I was defrosting the coils, I bumped one of the wires to what looks like a thermocouple and it came apart.  (Schematic calls it the "Defrost Term")  Reconnected and all seems to work, freezer temp at 15 degrees with setting at mid range.  Will check it again in about a week to see if I have a blizzard on the coils.  Now I just need to fix the icemaker as it still isn't working.
