My 2005 Kenmore side-by-side, w/ freezer drawer, refrigerator is having logic board problems.  At first, it would jump into a mode where all LED and control buttons on the front panel were illuminated, but wouldn't take input.  I could get it back to normal by unplugging, waiting 60sec and restarting.  That worked for ~10 times over the course of 3 months.  If I didn't do this and just ignored it, the 'fridge temp was way too cold and my beer froze.  However, now nothing works, no display lights (temp, lock, express freeze...), no response to the buttons.  Hard reboot no longer makes a difference.  What has failed and can I replace it myself?

Thanks!

795.
LG Electronics
refTough one but I would be guessing the main control board is bad that feeds the whole box since rebooting solved the problems before, this could be located on the back of the box or on the top....  that is my best guess, others may have better ones...:?

Pegi,
Thanks for the idea -- what does a main control board run, can I diagnose if it is in fact the issue, and can I replace it?

OK, could use some help here.

Since the main functions of the 'fridge were intact -- cooling, freezing, cycling, defrost -- i assumed that the main pcb was fine, but that the control board for the door buttons / LED display was out.  Replaced that, but no luck.  Still no functions at the door panel (temp control, lock, filter reset, etc).

Now what?

I can't locate a service manual for this model (795.75549401), so don't know the diagnostics for the main pcb, or the button combinations that trigger test functions...

Any other ideas as to the cause?

Thanks.

sorry, I previously posted link to wrong Service Manual (without Dispenser)

this should be the similar one LRFD21855 Service Manual

The power for the Display Board is derived from the Main Board.

Any part ordered from RepairClinic can be returned in original
condition within 30 days for a refund (less shipping).

I've now isolated the issue to be the wires feeding the pcb in the door -- 2 of 4 wires have no connectivity between the connector in the hinge and the connector at the board.

If I bypass these two conductors w/ wire, the panel in the door functions.

So, is it possible to take the door apart to run new wire?  I've not found shorts or loose connections at the connector pins, nor any obvious breaks in the wire at the flex point near the hinge.  Not sure how the wires would be broken w/in the door, but that seems to be what has happened.

Thoughts?

Thanks

You will need to splice the wires if there is enough wire to do this with or replace the whole door....common problems seems like with most brands...

Or not.

I found that I could fish a new pair of conductors along the water dispenser line -- down from the hinge to the pump in the door, and then back up to the dispenser outlet -- a bit longer path, but got me two new wires from the hinge to the door pcb.  I don't have a pin-puller for these connectors so just stuck the new wire in along side the pin crimp, not a perfect fix, but certainly better than a new door!
