I have clicks, clops, flashes, and whirrs. It all started one day when I was out of beer. I always wondered what water tastes like, so I gave the dispenser in the fridge it's chance. Nothing. The rest of the family had used it all the time, but they were saying it was making a funny noise and the ice didn't work. Like any man would do, I ignored them. The wife and kids got all dry looking and started slurring their speech. I figured it was time to fix the water problem. I replaced the filter. The dispenser did not work. I noticed now that it was making a relay kicking noise like the compressor was constantly trying to start. The light in the fridge dims on and off. The little door between the two sides constantly cycles. If I press the light button on the dispenser, the noise stops. BUT, the fridge stops cooling. I took off the back. I see nothing obvious. The compressor is VERY hot. The fridge still cools and freezes. THE NOISE IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!! PS, I made a video of it... with sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fszonNGMn0 help

If this was a maytag I would say it is a bad motherboard, not sure if GE's do this for that reason or not.....let us see what others say besides calling out the exorcist....

IT'S FIXED!!! FOR FREE!!** **NOTE: The free repair is for units PURCHASED/INSTALLED within the last 36 months. They do not ask for proof of purchase or installation date Here's my experience: Called customer relations 800-386-1215. The number from a previous post in this topic is a fax number. DO NOT press 9. Wait for announcement. Press 2. Wait for announcement. Press 5. Wait for announcement. Enter Zip. Wait for representative. Rep will ask you for your information. Name, address, contact number, model number, install date. They will ask if fridge is cooling. If not, they will try to schedule same or next day. Mine got scheduled next day. I had gone through some steps from other posts and got it to start cooling (ie save the beer at all costs). I showed up at same time as repair guy. He went in, wrote down the numbers and went out the truck. He came back in, pressed the water dispenser (of course compressor kicked off He replaced it, tested a few things, and left. Kind of anti-climatic I know, but hey, I was excited. Now it works fine. PS I kept the old board. I have some pictures of the damage. Repair guy pointed out two "trouble spots" that he sees affected majority of the time..

Hey Owner66; Thank you so much for pointing this lil problem out. Is there any chance you could post a picture of the damaged parts. I would be most gratefull if you could. Thank you.

Cool!! Thanks Denrayer. An after thought here. If it is only a couple capacitors then you would think that they could be easily replaced and save the customers beer stash if they went out on a friday at 4pm. Im sure that Radio Snack would have them in stock. Last edited on Mon Nov 10th, 2008 01:12 am by The Home Smithy ____________________ A child learns from its parents. Have a GBS22KBSacc refrigerator (bottom Freezer) that had similiar symptoms. I checked 2 caps shown in pic above (using esr meter) and they were open. replaced these 470uF 50V and then replaced board - everything worked but condenser fan. Found 2 more caps (1 uF, 50V by J2 connector) - replaced them and now refrigerator works like new. Too bad GE can't give out schematic and tell customers about known problems. NEVER BUY GE again. I guess if none exist, I will try my hand at reverse engineering a board and see what errupts.

That schematic looks to be better than what I was planning. Now, in keeping with this forum, I must do a better job than planned to save face! Hopefully I can get it done in the upcoming weeks. I'm sure it will be well used once complete.

This GE motherboard is not very easy to work on or reverse engineer as both sides are epoxy coated. This makes it very hard to get readings. Good luck. Personally this board should be available from appliance stores for around $25. This is because of GE mistakes and their horrible customer service.

Just an update on the schematic. I have the primary and secondary power circuits reverse engineered. I have found all of the parts except the MELF diodes which appear to be 1N4004 equivalents. I will get into the logic/processor circuits and relay setups next. Some other work has come up to keep me busy for the better part of the next week. Then I can get back to the reversal of technology. (The board I am reversing is the GE Refrigerator Microprocessor Control Board 200D4851G013 WR55X10503 / WR55X10556) Have A Great Weekend!
