I am not sure why , but my old sears bud from long-ago has told me in an e-mail that they were told to cut the end of the fill tube at the opposite angle. How this will keep it from freezing baffles me , but that is what he said. I have never tried it and would still use the heated fill tube , but would try the cut for a test until heated one came.

There was a flaw in the manufacturing of the tube, a slight protrusion inside the tube collected drops of water that would freeze, building up over time until the entire opening froze over. Maybe that was the reasoning in cutting the tube...

Thanks for the info c.i.r. Changed a few of those also , found you had to work the heater part with your hand and get it as small and as round as possible so it can be pulled thro easily. I also shot a squirt or so of wd40 into the freezer comp. opening where the tube goes into. Also , don't be cheep with the supplied grease - use it...

Thanks for the replies fellow techs...... I have done a few of these already.....When I remove the old tube,I pull thru a heavy string/ light cord. I tape ( start at the tube end, spiral the electrical tape) the cord parallel to the tube for about 18 to 24 inches, it helps to have something firmer to grip when pulling/pushing to new tube into place.....I push a lot of the grease into the hole ( in the ceiling ) (at the spout end) to help grease the full length.... This is the first one that I'm doing out of warranty .........$$$$$ P.S. thanks RegUS for the info on the item on Ebay.....I paid full price at my parts place, I did not want to do the Ebay thing....(a first timer).
