Our two-year old Maytag MFD2561HES stopped cooling yesterday, both in the freezer and fridge--and after only 2 years. After a few minutes on the web it looks like I'm just one of a long, long line of suckers.
Power still on, lights, humming, etc.
I'ver read related threads in this forum, but my question is: since both units stopped cooling, is the likely culprit still the evaporator fan? How could I check that/where is it? Although it sounds more like it could be -- groan -- the compressor.
I would appreciate any feedback -- TIA.

Is the compressor running (for more that a few seconds) ?
And the condenser fan (by the compressor) should run anythime the compressor is told to run.
Is the evaporator fan running (inside the freezer) ?
Is the evaporator all clogged with frost ?

I believe the answer to #s 1-3 is Yes; to #4, positively No.
My limited warranty would cover evaporator/compressor issues, so I'm thinking I'll just get it serviced, unless anyone has a better idea.
Many thanks for your response. The Service Manual PDF is invaluable.

Does the compressor run "forever" ?
that would indicate a sealed system leak, should be covered under warranty.

Yes, it does. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Thanks again.
