I have read a ton on stuff about the IM6 and how it is a nightmare. I have one with a blinking LED. And this is my second one. I have read snippets that it can be replaced with a WP but cannot find any how-to's. Is this recommended? Is this a fairly simple operation?
Thanks for any help?

HOW OLD IS YOUR FRIDGE ? if its older to make use of the im6 you had to conect an adapter cord with a round plug that plugs into your freezer . in this case just go with an im3 if you cant get them here e bay allways has a few . if your fridge is newer and uses the square plug with no adapter , there is nothing you can do the im6 is it .......

You can't change an IM6 with a Whirlpool.

There is no "can't" or "nothing you can do", In the technitions bag of tricks... you want to get paid for the job, you have to get creative. .....All I/M are basicly the same from the module to the plug .....Cut off the old harness from the failed I/M and get a new I/M. You only have 4 wires....( power- neutral-ground-water valve) ...cut and strip your wires, slip on some heat shrink sleeves ....solder your wires, slide heat shrink over connections ....shrink....... I did part of the thinking, you can match wires and mounting for each machine you come across....... good luck

Most of the ice maker can be replaced with many different older model that seem to last longer. I have changed several by changing the wires from the maker to the plug. I usually use crimp on connectors If you really want, put some shrink tubing over the connector. Just replace my own Amana with new old stock unit. Mounting for the most part are exactly the same.

you cannot replace a ge ice maker with an amana without a mounting plate u-line used to make a replacement ge kit .It included a mounting plate that dropped down the mounting holes , an amana style icemaker and a adapter cord . anyone can make the cord and plate but who would waste that much time . when im-3 kits can still be had for little money ?
