Honorable Sensei,
After perusing these forums and finding much helpful information, I tried several of the repair tips I found; problem - Seems that the fill level on the icemaker was too high, resulting in spillover and everything freezing up. Water pooling in bottom of Ice bucket, immobilized auger, ice maker seems to not be harvesting, ice in water tube. So I thawed everything out. Pump is working (dispenser and ice maker), auger is working, tube no longer blocked. So I followed procedure here:
http://fixitnow.com/sbrvrs/icemakers.htm
and "Jump(ed) T to H to activate icemaker and observe harvest cycle". Well. it fired right up, but there was too much water. So I mopped up and tried it again, and LO, there was a spark behind the wheel on the module head, and a leetle puff of smoke. It did, however, go through the harvest/fill cycle, and there was plenty of water (since I neglected to empty it first). So I'm waiting now to see what happens during the next cycle, whether it'll smoke, but its been well over an hour and its not cycling. I shy from jumping it again, for I fear I have fried my module. Any ideas / advice / links to the replacement part (heh heh). Do I wait until morning, and see if I have ice? I am assuming it wont burn the house down in the interim...
Thanks for any and all help,
D

You could have damaged the copper contacts in the module head....price a new one from repair clinic vs. all the work for a used one ....

Jump(ering) T to H shouldn't hurt anything (except maybe YOU, its 120v line voltage) momentarilly connecting the 200 watt heater and the motor to start the harvest cycle.

Notwithstanding the overfill condition you describe here, water should NOT have leaked into the module head. The fact that it apparently did tells me that there's a breach between the mold and the module head == new icemaker time. Come git you one:

Cool, thanks for the input. I wonder if I got water in the module head when I took it out to thaw (put it in the sink - maybe it got wet that way?) Her's an update. Turned icemaker off when I went to bed, and flipped it back on this am, and the harvest cycle started. It took a while for it to dislodge the cubes, however. Like, 15 seconds maybe. But then it did, and my fill cycle did not overfill. There may have been a spark again, but I'm not sure, and didn't have time to wait for another cycle.
Another post I saw mentioned the heater that loosens the cubes, and (I think it was Pegi) said that is a chronic problem with Whirlpools/Kitchenaides.
I'm going to run it again tonight, and try to limp along with it. I have an unused icemaker in a KENMORE 18 (don't know model offhand) I might be able to pirate parts from. I'll get details before I try. If it looks like replacement is the thing, I'll hit the repair clinic.
Thank you, wise ones.

Here's an update:
Icemaker seems to be working just fine (29501: looks like 7.5 is about right) with one exception; there is definitely a spark in the module (right behind the upper right part of the wheel) just as the water shuts off. Originally thought the spark was because it was wet, but its been several days so it should have dried out - unless there could be ice in there - could that make it arc?
Otherwise, nice clear big ice cubes. A whole tub full. And the fridge hasn't burst into flames. Life is good. Beer is cold.
Let me know what you guys think about that spark, would you please? Still a 'come an git you one?'
And the last question would be this: I have a Kenmore 18 model 106 8768885 with an icemaker that I don't use. Can I pirate that icemaker, either whole or in part? I don't have a model on the icemaker, nor have I taken it apart to see what it looks like. Guess I'm that "i've got ice; i ain't takin nothin else apart' mode...

Both your refers are Whirlpools. 106. is Sears prefix for whirlpool....... The I/M's are basiclly the same........ The wire harness on your I.M.'s are interchangeable by P/N research, one is new, one is a replacement.......The spark is possibily the contacts in the module disconnecting.....sparks = arcing = burnt contacts
