I just acquired a 21 year old Sub-zero Model 561 side-by-side.  It's in great shape and supposedly has been working very well.  I now have it installed and it got down to temp fairly quickly.  Freezer compartment will freeze a cup of water readily, but the ice machine is producing nothing.  I know I have plenty of water pressure coming in; I tested that.  But, the ice tray doesn't fill.  No noises, nothing.  Where should I look next for the problem?  Should I replace the water inlet valve?  Appreciate the help!

first you need to find out if the ice maker head does anything at all :  lift the wire on the ice maker till it clicks that will turn the ice maker off , then wait 6 hours , go back and lower the wire lever , as soon as you do this the ice maker will go into harvest mode and things will start to move . if nothing happens you ice maker head is dead . do this test and get back to us

Thanks CB,

Our old fridge had such a wire, but this one has an on/off switch.  I switched it to off and will turn it back on in the morning and let you know what happens.  Thanks again for the help!

OK, as Cactus Bob suggested, we turned off the ice maker last night and when I turned it back on this morning the ice ejector comb did swing through its cycle and eject three tiny dirty ice cubes, but I couldn't hear the tray fill with water again.  What should I try next?  Time to replace the water valve solenoid?

Thanks for the help!

Do not do anything for a few Cycles of the I/M.  If the unit has not been used for a while you have to get water thru the system. A few cycles  for water to go from valve to the I/M.....Let it run the night and check in the morning.................... keep us posted.

IF your asking me , yes time for a valve , just make sure AGAIN  that your water line to the valve is clear of dirt and by running water from the line into a pan you have good flow and pressure . good luck with your new valve

OK...not sure the ice machine cycles without water coming in, but I forced it through several cycles by resetting (turning it off for a while then back on). Still no ice being produced.  Is it possible to bypass the inlet solenoid and inject water up into the tray to make sure that tube isn't clogged?  Seems like that would be easy enough to try.

With power OFF, disconnect the outlet of the water valve behind the fridge (and run it into a bucket), then run the i/m.

Thanks for all the help everyone!  We are getting the ice machine to make some ice, however it will only make two cycles and then quit for the rest of the day!  If I turn it off overnight to reset it and turn it on in the morning, it will make two cycles again and then quit.  Any suggestions?  Is the Control module going bad perhaps?  Any way to test it?  Thanks again, you guys are great.

When it quits working after those two cycles, does it go through the cycle but no water comes in, or is it not going through the cycle.  Check to see there is any ice or water in the ice maker mold, if there is no water or ice, then  it must be going through the cycle, but not letting in water.  The ice maker goes through two cycles, the first get the ice out of the mold, the second fill the mold with water.  Good luck.
