Has anyone ever tried cleaning the filter in the solenoid valve box that attaches to the water supply?  It's a gray plastic box, outside the washer, that operates the valve to the water supply.  I'm not getting any water into the machine at present.

Miele customer service (which is great - they'll talk to you about your machine!) says there's a filter that can clog, and I'd like to try cleaning it out before they send someone out at horrific expense.

So, anyone ever tried this job?  Any advice appreciated.

Super easy job, all you might need is a pair of Channellock® pliers and a needlenose to pull the little plastic bit out. The valve has probably failed but still worth a try. Not that hard to replace the whole inlet assembly.

Update:

Got it open, can't tell where the filter is.  And, per my discussions with Miele service, it is clear that the solenoid itself is busted.  It makes no noises or vibrations when the machine ought to be asking for water.

I'd replace it myself, but I can't find a source of Miele parts anywhere.

Oh, well.  I think I'm just going to call service and pay up.  Ouch.

And, curses, another opportunity to add to my Appliantologist stripes slips by.  Apprentice forever, I fear.

Only source I know of for Miele parts is the same number you called for help. They'd be happy to sell you anything you needed. Make sure the electronic is sending power to the inlet valve before ordering one.
