I keep seeing references to frigidaires 5 year warranty. I can't find anything on their website. Can anyone tell me more about it and what it covers?

Just for future reference,  to whoever may find this topic,   ALL refrigerators in America have a 5 year sealed system warranty.   This is FEDERAL LAW!

This includes compressor,  condensor,  tubing,  evaporator,  and drier.

Sometimes this warranty can be hard to find.   Some refrigerator makers purposely make this warranty hard to find,  but it will be in the small print somewhere.    I can see that Frigidaire actually made it somewhat easy to find in their manual.

Personally,   I bought a small Frigidaire refrigerator for my office just a  few months ago.    We plugged it in,  a few days later looked at the coils and it was obvious that the freon level was low.  I actually had to use this warranty myself.  They gave me a new refrigerator - the new one had a freon leak AGAIN.    The third refrigerator was finally decent.     This shows how refrigerators are built these days.    Even as a refrigerator technician,   I did not want to even deal with fixing it myself when I just call the factory and get it replaced.

They will say at first that there is a minimum fee,  but when they see that its sealed system for themselves,  you will not have to pay anything.  Labor, parts, tax,  it is all covered by the federally mandated 5 year sealed system warranty.    DO NOT PAY ANYTHING.

DO NOT LET ANY TECHNICIAN (who is not factory authorized) install a piercing valve!!!  They will void that warranty!!

as of 2007 all Whirlpool products only have a (1) year warranty on sealed systems...there are no longer any 5 years on the Whirlpool made products.

Nope.

What are the Model and Serial numbers for the unit in question?

Refer to the owners manual, or "Use and Care" manual for the warranty. Even models that came out after the change to the one year warranty may have shipped with an old manual with the 5-year warranty information, which with "Proof of Purchase," should be honored by the factory authorized servicer . Otherwise, the warranty will be based the date of manufacture and the factory warranty in effect on that date.

Change to Simplified Warranty

Dear Authorized Service Company,

Effective January 1, 2006, Electrolux Major Appliances will be offering a simplified one-year manufacturer’s warranty on all Frigidaire, White Westinghouse, Tappan, Gibson, and Kelvinator-branded appliances. Please note that the Electrolux ICON, Frigidaire Gallery, and Frigidaire Professional brands are excluded from these warranty changes.

In the past, some product components (e.g., sealed systems and washer tubs) had extended warranties; however, with this change, these extended warranties will be eliminated. In addition, the warranty coverage on all replacement parts will shift from a one-year warranty to a 90-day limited warranty.

The consumer will benefit from this warranty change by having simplified warranty terms, and through improved product quality and after-sales care. Consumer research shows that warranty is not one of the most critical elements of the purchase decision, and ranks behind other factors such as energy conservation, existing space available for an appliance, and cost of the unit.
