Hi. I have a 6 year old Fisher and Paykel Activesmart fridge that runs more than 90% of the time and keeps both the fridge and freezer too cold. I just looked and the fridge is currently 24 deg F and the freezer is -10 deg F. A few months ago we got the repairman out because it wasn't turning off. He pulled the back out of the freezer and the element in there was enclosed in ice. The defrost element had a faulty connection that the repairman fixed (unplugged the connector and plugged back in). I defrosted the fridge for a day in 30 deg C weather and replaced the back of the freezer as instructed. Still running most of the time. The repairman came back out and replaced the main control unit in the back with a brand new one. Still no good. He came back again later and replaced the control pad assembly in the fridge. Still no good. The repairman reckoned the thermistors were all good. I unplugged the sensor wires from the main control unit and measured the resistances accross the three different pairs of wires at 3.77 Kohms, 20.16 Kohms and 5.06 Kohms. Any ideas? Damian.

i dont have much expierience with the FP fridges, but.... does your door sensor beep when the door is left open too long? cause if the buzzer isn't working maybe the light is staying on inside the cabinet, thats all it takes sometimes to warm the thermistors and cause the fridge to freeze

Hi and thanks for the quick responses Using the diagnostics posted (thank you) I believe that the sensor readings are as follows: PC 0.5 deg C FC 21.5 deg C Defrost -24.5 deg C. With the door open, the light on and the compressor running. Does this mean that the FC (freezer compartment?) thermistor is faulty? Thanks, Damian.

doesn't look good, you could check them again, and do the temperature tests on the second page with the read-outs on the lights (confusing) or post the light results here. were those temperature posted converting the resistance readings or the diagnostic readings (lights) ? The readings were the diagnostics usng the lights. I just got the same results this morning after the fridge had been closed all night.

Hi everyone. I purchased a thermistor from the local appliance parts outlet (he had to get it in, apparently they had a run on them recently) for $30 and replaced it in less than a half hour. The freezer temp now reads perfectly and the fridge is running a lot less and not getting too cold but it is still staying nice and cold. The fridge compartment is reading a little high (reads 4 deg C while the actual temp is actually 0 deg C) maybe I should replace this thermistor too or is this within tolerance? The fridge cycles on for about 10-15 mins then off for 10-15 minutes (I am only guessing on the times, I haven't actually timed it), is this normal? Thanks for all your help. I have done better than the repairman that cost me $500 throwing parts at it with no real fault finding. I am a bit annoyed at that and will be sending them a letter outling what I did and telling them in a nice way they are useless. Keep up the good work, Damian.

Greetings to all from the little known country that foistered F&P on the world. I am here to bow down to your superior intelligence and hope to glean some pearl that may just allow my clients unit to provide him with cold beer and frozen peas & carrots. Unit formally known as F&P 402B Active smart, has diconnected itself from the collective and embarked upon developing its own mind... herein now to be known as my ex wife. As part of alimony, I have brought for her a new mouse tampon sensor for the FC as old one was a wee bit burnt. Installed, and worked fine overnight. The bitch refused to give me any indication of what might be going wrong in here life so I begrudgingly threw her a new computer module to keep the gods satiated. The gods responded by allowing her to work a 50/50 shift. After following your timely advice regarding the ex of the above poster, I can confirm that english would now be my better choice. Wife powers up, no faults present. After a few minutes open PC door it beeps like a unpaid washing machine, and flashes the following fault code. 2nd from the top thermometer bar green, alternating with bottom thermometer red. Upon paying out for a psychiatrist eval, through diagnostics it was found that all tampons appear to be functioning within normal parameters, after waving an infrared thermo unit at each compartment and taking the prescribed course in binary. Would be much obliged if you could advise any further steps you may recommend to trouble shoot this, as with most ex wifes, they run cold when they should be hot, hot when they wanna be cold and in general the method of advising any problem is either gougingly painful or so bloody cryptic I almost need a shrink :o) TIA

Value=16. Fridge section fan is drawing more current than expected. Check fan, wiring and connections. Replace faulty fan if required.

Thanks, and good on ya, will give that a try tomorrow, the onboard computer appears to get confused rather easily, hence the function monitor gave an erroneous reading for the compressor, that is it thought it was running when it clearly wasn't. Brand new CPU unit though, at least this one handed out that fault code though. Thanks. Regards to you. Angus

Right fresh out of F &P Spares one Fan unit, rechecked sensors purely for peace of mind, door switches etc as original fault with previous computer was purely an incessant beeping that didn't stop for unit put into sabbath. (No fault code shown on top pnel upon opening just flases the FC compartment light and displays temp. So, onto new cpu with sensors top and bottom door switches and defrost sensor checked, new fan fitted, wiring checked out, for fan circuit. which speeds away at three speeds, fan in FC working too. Compressor kicking in and out at appropriate timing. Customer after four trips is a bit pissed off Any clues. PC has been maintaining a healthy close to zero temp, freezer -15 -- -18 degc. Unit also can have this fault temporarily cleared by poweron/off cycle but wont hold fast. Getting to the point of snipping the piezo. :o) Have a great weekend. Regards Gus.
