In the best impersonation of Dr. Nick Riviera from The Simpsons...
Hi Everybody!
I'm back... I had an issue with this dishwasher a few months ago and with help on this website I was able to determine that I needed a new control panel. I installed the new panel and all was well with the world until last night...
Quick background... Two weeks ago our clothes washing machine drain backed up due to some moron putting 'construction debris' down the pipe when the house was remodeled after hurricane Katrina... The debris finally moved to a position where it totally blocked the pipe and we had an overflow that we did not catch in time. Needless to say, the wood floors need to be replaced in my 3 yr old's room where the water seeped under the wall and fermented between the foam-rubber, puzzle-pieces play mat that was on top of the wood floors...
To make a long story short... yeah, I know...
My wife called me into the kitchen last night and showed me where the dishwasher decided to pee on the floor... It took a good bit of self-control and my wife rolling her eyes at me to restrain myself from completely shutting off the water to the house for good.
To be honest, this is NOT alot of water, I was able to clean it up with a dishrag, but still... I have no desire to live in a damp house.
Details:
The water is leaking from the center of the door. I've read a few posts here about methods to fix this, but also wanted to get some opinions...
The top washer spray arm broke off about a month ago and I simply forgot about it... It will be replaced now that I've been reminded, but in the last month the dishwasher hasn't leaked so I really don't think that was the problem.
I did notice last night however when I was in there and inspecting things that there seems to be little dark grey 'specks' of grit here and there throughout the tub. Not alot mind you, but maybe 20-30 specks around the enclosure.
Also, there was moisture throughout the entire tub... dripping from the top of the tub, pooled deep in any dish that would hold water, etc.
Is my primary leak issue the vent sticking? I read on a post here that the vent not opening could be a cause and it seems logical that the air wouldn't be able to leave the top vent so it may push moisture out of the bottom door seal where there is a gap for air movement.
Any thoughts, ideas, words of encouragement, and/or offers to put my dishwasher out of its misery would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
psmit13

remove the 2 screws that hold the front panel on the door and remove door panel
now watch the machine wash, you will see where your leak comes from now, its prolly splashing out the bottom of the tub, with the wash arm broken it could just be loading that causes the odd jet of water caused by the broken arm to splask on the bottom of the tub and out the bottom of the door
your wash arms alternate top/bottom, to make the pump switch arms open/close the door latch quickly, you will hear the difference when the arms change

Ugh again...
Where to being...
It does appear that some water is splashing on the bottom of the tub and out the door, but it also appears that some water was splashing directly on top of a pot on the top rack and out through the vent as well...
But, the real kicker was the water stains from around the dish soap holder... Apparently this thing has been leaking quite a bit itself.
Seriously... Can someone suggest a decent dishwasher, available in stainless, and that does not require me to be a repairman every few months?
Going to check prices on the soap holder to determine if it is worth my time replacing.

That would be the one... I can't understand how it is leaking though... I can't see any visible cracks... I guess there is a gasket under there that has let go or something...
I think I hate Frigidaire...

Sorry you are having so many problems with your Frigidaire, I work on fewer of these than any other brand, there is a gasket on the soap dispensor but most likely this isn't your problem.
Run a cycle with the front panel off the dishwasher so you can see the dispensor cup and vent. You will most likely see the water coming from the vent and running around the dispensor cup making it look like the dispensor is leaking.

That would make plenty sense! - That would explain the water running down the inside of the interior metal section of the door and into the drip pan as well as explain the water coming from the backside of the soap dispenser...
The water marks/stains around the dispenser suggest this has happend often in the past. Is it possible the vent has been sticking open all this time? Should it be replaced or just work it loose if it is stuck? And, could the more obvious leak that I'm seeing now be due to the broken top spray arm?
Thanks everyone for chiming in... This is extremely helpful in understanding what is truly going on here...

| if you have a broken or cracked spray arm you can have leaks as well, and I dont believe that your model has a wax motor operated vent, I thinks your is just an open vent. If your spray arm is damaged I would definitely replace it before anything else, it may solve your peoblem and is not very expensive.

I'll look to the spray arm replacement before anything else then...
I did forget to mention... The spray arm itself did not 'break off'.
Something had fallen out of the bottom 'tray' and I was bent over trying to reach into the tub to pick it up when I noticed the spray arm was literally just hanging very crookedly. When I touched it to see if it was in fact broken, it fell off in my hand. It may have been cracked and ready to break for quite some time, but it just took a slight nudge to dislodge it totally.
***Can anyone tell me if I have to remove the dish washer to replace the top spray arm (do I need access to the top of the unit)? Or can it be done in place?
Thanks again!

29501 - Thanks again... Finally got the spray arm replaced last night and all is well with the world again...
Ran a few test cycles w/ some paper towels on the floor under the door to verify and sure enough... after 3 complete washes we have no leak.
Can't express how much I appreciate this site and the forum members that have provided the advice.
