I am trying to fix my GE side by side Model Number ESH22XGpbww Fridge.

The thingies on the back of the freezer (coils?) are frozen solid and a friend said that he replaced the mother board and fixed it.

A guy in a parts store said I should look at the heater (which I have already pulled out) the top and bottom sensors (wr55x10025) and one other thing before I mess with the mother board.

I could not write fast enough to get the "one other thing"

I am getting a reading on the heater but both ends of it looks burnt like a bulb that has burned out. I am thinking of replacing that anyway since I have everything torn apart.

How do the sensors come out do they unplug? I pulled on the white base but I did not want to pull too hard until I talked to you.

And what was the fourth thing that I did not write down?

Well this should be enough to get me started. Thanks

Stephen King << Yeah I know! I wish!! I would be dragging this GE side by side out and strapping 6 pounds of c-4 on it if I had his money!!!

Continuity or voltage?

if that heater is burnt and it's not bad it's not long for this world..change it even if it reads continuity...now the 4 things that can go wrong

1)heater ...wr51x10053....all the time

2)thermistor ...wr55x10025...all the time..

3) mutha board ...wr55x10552...pretty common

4)safety themostat...wr50x10054...hardly ever go bad

there are a ton of helpful posts on here for this style fridge...here is a quick breakdown of how to check it if your a consumer.....

1) check the heater with a meter for continuity if bad replace the heater and thermistor (thermistor is cheap and as I have posted in many other threads it can read good and still be bad)

2)if heater checks good then replace thermistor (follow above post) also check the safety themostat....its purpose is to shut the heater down should it stay  on or short out and stay on (temps. are L140-30) it works the same as the older def. thermostats at just higher temps.( should read good any time you check it as the temp should never be 140 degrees in the freezer side)

3)if after checking the heater and it's good and changing the thermistor and 2-3 weeks or month-ish later you have frosting again then change the mutha board

IMHO..boards are changed way to much when they aren't always bad...the ones they first come out with were junk but even GE has made strides to improve them..i always hold out to the end to do a board because of $$$$$...good  luck

Continuity. The part was out of the Fridge on the table with no power going thru it.

check this link and look at jabkos diagram of the motherboard...

1) look at plug J1 and the evap. thermistor wires will be checked at position 4 & 5 with your meter

2) notice the thermistor value chart..temp. is on the left and resistance is on the right...measure the tep. of the freezer and the resistance should co-incide

3) check the safety therm as stated before
