 Exalted Master, re: Kenmore Model 106.68902891 serial EH4721100 birthed in 11 of '98, water is accumulating in the bottom of the unit. I have read posts regarding defrost-drain systems and have attempted to dismantle the apparatus under the freezer that I assume contains the pathway for drainage, but it is apparently unable to be disassembled without breaking the cover: the tabs that lock it in place appear to be made to lock in only. The back of the fridge is also apparently unable to be opened. Is my only option to vault the unit over the side of my second story deck, or is there something else I can try? I was wondering if giving the freezer and lower unit a good defrost-warming might clear any apparent blockage? Thank You.

 This does look a bit tricky, the defrost drain channel is under the evaperator on the back of the freezer. Looks like the air tower will snap out at the top and there would be a screw holding the back panel.  Then the drain trough will be exposed.  However you might also be able to unblock the drain from the rear of the box where the drain like comes thru the back.  If you cannot get it apart your thawing the freezer/drain area might be a good idea before the people below your deck area become the new owners of a slightly smashed ref.....If you can get to this drain fitting and it is iced up, you might want to install a drain heater kit so this will not happen again...

 Thank you, Master Pegi-Won. In a few days when I get home I will look into this. Sounds like you are saying that if I empty the freezer I will be able to get to the air tower and the screw for the back panel. I'll take a look. What is a drain heater kit and how hard is it to install and can I get one from this site? Does it involve splicing into existing wiring for power? Thanks again.

 This model has a slide-out freezer shelf.  Remove the shelf, then remove the bottom panel (item 25), it's held by 4 or 5 screws. Then remove the back panel (4 or 5 screws again), you don't need to detach the air tower.

The drain heater is simply a little metal probe which clamps round the defrost heater, Whirlpool (who made your refrigerator) part number 819043. No wiring necessary.

 I've put a number of those little probes in, gets just enough heat down there to stop it freezing up. The pack includes a little aluminium tube - ignore it, more bother than its worth. Just ensure that the probe isn't touching the sides of the drain.

 The disassembly suggested has resulted in removal of ice and installation of probe. The cost of the probe plus shipping came to about $20.00: expensive. But compared to employing Sears from 18 miles away, and considering the valuable segment of samurai appliance training received: Priceless! No steaming entrails on the floor, even! Thank you endlessly. :dude:
